Any visitor to Athens will notice the many classic buildings that have been forgotten about and left to decay.
However, the long process to restore these classic buildings is underway so that Athens can be beautified.
The Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, through a Facebook post explained the restoration process accompanied with photos.
“Many years have passed in abandonment, decay and darkness. Today, 63 classic buildings in Athens are being restored,” he said.
He also revealed that many of the buildings were cleared of squatters, who are overwhelmingly anarchists.
“They return to the Athenians. They were evacuated from the illegal occupations, cleaned and become parts of Athens again,” he continued to explain in his Facebook post.
“The way is open for them to be used. To regain their life and color. With them, plots and public spaces that had gone unsolicited. Let’s re-illuminate the corners of the city!” he added.
